About the Ford Explorer

As America's all-time best-selling SUV, the Ford Explorer is now leaner, lighter, and stronger than ever before while simultaneously boasting the broadest model lineup in its storied history. Powerful yet efficient EcoBoost® engines and innovative new technology help you tackle all of life's challenges. Totally redesigned from the ground up, rear-wheel drive architecture makes this the most capable Explorer ever. A reimagined interior comes packed with greater space and cutting-edge tech features. Standard Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist+ allows you to hit the streets with confidence by protecting you from the unexpected. Athletic styling enhancements help you stand out from the crowd of ordinary SUVs. From the capable Active to the luxurious Platinum, there's sure to be a Ford Explorer that perfectly suits your lifestyle and driving habits.

What the Critics Say

"The switch back to traditional rear-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is optional) makes sense on many levels. Handling and overall balance improve dramatically when you stop trying to steer and power a vehicle from the same end. Towing stability and powertrain selection also benefit. Indeed, the Explorer is one of the better choices in the midsize three-row SUV class for towing." - Edmund

"Although certainly spacious and family friendly, the latest Explorer is for those who want their SUV to have guts. The standard 2.3-liter turbo engine pumps out more power and torque than its competitors' V6 engines, while bettering their fuel economy as well. The optional V6 engines, meanwhile, are turbocharged and obliterate everything else in the segment, topping out at 400 horsepower in the Explorer ST." - Autoblog

What's New for 2025

Shoppers will be delighted to learn that the popular Ford Explorer has received a major refresh both inside and out for the 2025 model year. Beginning with the trim levels, there are now just four individual models to choose from compared to 8 for the prior model year. Visually, the Explorer receives an updated front fascia, new exterior lighting, updated wheel choices, and a new black roof option is now available on select models. Even more extensive are the updates to the interior of the Explorer. Inside, you’ll find new upholstery options and color choices that deliver a more upscale feel compared to the outgoing variant. In terms of technology, the 2025 Explorer is the first Ford to debut with the all-new Ford Digital Experience infotainment system. Rounding out the list of updates is the debut of available BlueCruise hands-free highway driving as a new standalone feature for the 2025 Ford Explorer.

Ford Explorer Features

Ford Explorer Performance

Capable Performance

Ready to help conquer any obstacle that stands in your way, the Explorer rides on a rear-wheel drive platform which helps enhance on- and off-road capabilities. The re-engineered 2.3-liter engine produces 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, with greater performance over the outgoing Explorer equipped with the same engine. As the backbone of the ST and Platinum powertrains, the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine generates a muscular 400 horsepower. All Explorer models come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. With the available 4WD with Terrain Management System,™ the Explorer is prepared for the road ahead. Standard trailer sway control selectively brakes and adjusts engine power to maintain trailer control, great for hauling your biggest toys along for the weekend.
